Home + the World

Home + the World is a newsletter by Jodi Rhoden exploring the ways we become exiled: through trauma, addiction, oppression, grief, loss, and family estrangement; and the ways we create belonging: through food and cooking, through community care and recovery and harm reduction, through therapy and witchcraft and making art and telling stories and taking pictures and houseplants and unconditional love and nervous system co-regulation and cake. Home + the World features personal essay, links, recipes, and recommendations. Dear Temperance is Home + the World’s Tarot advice column for paid subscribers. Send your burning questions with the subject line “Dear Temperance” to homeandtheworld@substack.com. Thank you for reading!

About Jodi Rhoden

I’m a writer and social worker (MSW, LSW, CAACD) specializing in attachment, addiction, and trauma recovery. I’ve had a meandering work-life rooted in activism and social entrepreneurship, baking, Southern foodways, community gardening, kitchen witchery, tarot counseling, business coaching, teaching, and writing. In the beforetimes, (before COVID, sobriety, estrangement, grad school, etc) I lived in Asheville, NC, where I started a dreamboat of a cake shop called Short Street Cakes and blogged about it and wrote a book about Cake Ladies that was a love song to the whole endeavor. These days, I work as a therapist and live happily ever after with my husband, Duncan, our son, Jasper, and our many animals and plants in the big gritty city of Philadelphia, PA.
